About Wine Rater Free
Wine Rater Free is a calculator for wine evaluation using the professional 100-point scoring system trusted in international competitions and prestigious wine publications. You don't need experience to get started — the app guides you through a simple marking process that makes professional wine assessment accessible to everyone.
The app breaks down wine evaluation into three main characteristics, each scored on a straightforward 1-to-5 scale where 1 is excellent and 5 is not satisfactory. Start by rating appearance, then move to aroma, and finally taste. Each section expands into specific qualities you assess independently: appearance covers clarity and colour accuracy; aroma evaluates intensity, purity, and harmony; taste measures intensity, purity, harmony, and how long the flavour lasts on your palate.
Once you've marked each quality, the app converts your ratings into points weighted by importance. A button press displays the breakdown, showing exactly how each component contributes to your final score. This transparency helps you understand what drives your overall impression of the wine.
Your final score lands on a recognizable scale from 40 to 100 points. Scores below 70 indicate undrinkable or mediocre wine; 70–79 ranges from mediocre to wines that make no particular impression. Scores of 80–84 represent good everyday drinking wines; 85–89 mark very good bottles worth keeping an eye out for. Ratings of 90–94 identify excellent wines that deserve tasting, while 95–100 signals wines of absolute highest quality — unique, fantastic, and worth seeking out.
Use this app to track your tastings, compare notes across different bottles and vintages, and build a personal reference library of wines you've evaluated. The consistent scoring system makes it easy to spot patterns in your preferences and discover which characteristics matter most to you. Whether you're exploring wines at home, visiting a vineyard, or building tasting skills over time, Wine Rater Free puts professional evaluation methods in your hands.
